County Works to Clean Up Tire Dumps
July 15, 2015
More than 500 tires were removed from a dump near Turner Road in Heflin recently. With help from the Cleburne County Sheriff’s Department, County Compliance Office personnel worked for two days to clean up the site. County officials plan to continue the work at other dump sites in the upcoming year. The initiative is funded by a grant from the Alabama Department of Environmental Management.
Over the past year, more than 4,000 tires have been removed from the local right-of-ways. These old tires are no longer littering the county’s landscape or providing breeding environments for rats and mosquitoes. Last week, the County personnel began loading the old tires to be transported to a landfill outside Cleburne County.
